Text Along Path Project in Lightburn for potential video

Planning

Laser Workshop GuildLightBurn Community

I have used Text Along Path quite a bit and was planning on creating an instructional video, outlining mistakes, work arounds and discoveries.

Session 3

Changing Path in use.

Something I discovered when working on my practice job, I knew I could adjust the path of the text by adjusting the path it is connected to. I didn't realize I could have the text following a box path, go in and ad curved corners to the box and have the text change on the fly. I thought I had to undo the "apply path to text", change the path and then re-apply the path to the text. Pictures will be added.

The maker has not added a Project Entry to this Project Session yet.

I'm intrigued by you saying you can round the corners of a box after the text is applied to the box. I use Lightburn 1.7.08 because my main laptop runs Linux. I noticed you were running v2.1. So, I also tried it on my Win11 laptop running v2.1.0.4. I couldn't get that to work in either version. I'm wondering if you could elaborate a little on how you did it.

On a side note, while just altering the box with the standard handles, the text followed perfectly. So, I wondered about using the Warp or Deform tools. As soon as I clicked one of those handles (not even moving anything), the text to path was broken.

I put a quick video on YouTube (nothing fancy) showing what I did. I am still working on the scripting of the real video I'm doing, which is why this hasn't progressed much. (still in planning). I finally got it my short video uploaded with my phone because my computer couldn't do it. I hope this helps.

That is exactly what I needed. I'm surprised I wasn't subscribed to you since I've seen you around on livestreams before. Well, I remedied that. Look forward to your completed video.

I do have a suggestion for your completed video. You probably know this but I figured I'd mention it anyway. Since the text starts opposite the shape's origin point, how do you get it to start somewhere else? In v2.0 of LB, there's the change origin point now. However, I prefer working in Linux and thus using v1.7. So, you can add a node opposite of where you want the text to be. Then, break that node (hit 'B') and it creates a new origin point. Just a suggestion for those still running v1.7 along w/ v2.0.

I will be including how to start where you want, text direction (top inward or outward) and part inward and outward.
